Motorsport has played an important role in Australia’s cultural, sporting, and economic history for the past 100 years.
It is the third most attended and fourth most watched sport in Australia. Collectively the Australian Motorsport Council (AMC) member bodies, sanction, regulate and insure 5 International Events, 78 major National Events and more than 8000 State and Club level motorsport events each year.
AMC members are all not-for-profit member-based organisation focused on the development, regulation, and administration of their specific forms of motorsport across Australia.
Australian Motorsport Council
The AMC is constituted by Australia’s peak motorsport regulatory bodies across the five key motorsport disciplines – automobile, motorcycle, karting, drag racing and speedway.
AMC’s members have earned their delegation of authority and responsibility to organise, sanction and control motorsports in Australia from their International Motorsport Federations both of which are members of the Global Association of International Sports Federations.
Motorsport Australia
Motorsport Australia is the peak body for motorsport in Australia. It has a proud history and has been the custodian of motorsport in Australia since 1953. The organisation is the Australian delegated National Sporting Authority (ASN) by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body for world motorsport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organisations; a responsibility held since 1958.
Motorsport Australia is also the recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for motor sport by the Commonwealth Government via the Australian Sports Commission.
Through Motorsport Australia, the FIA delegates authority, to organise, regulate, sanction, and promote Karting and Drag Racing to Karting Australia and ANDRA respectively.
Motorcycling Australia
Motorcycling Australia is the peak body for motorcycling in Australia. Its history stems back to 1928 when the Australian Auto Cycle Council of Australia (ACCA) was formed to represent the interests of Motorcycle clubs and state associations at a national level.
Known as Motorcycling Australia since 1992, the organisation is the Australian delegated National Sporting Authority (ASN) by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the governing body for world motorcycling and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organisations; a responsibility held since 1975.
Motorcycling Australia is also the recognised National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for motorcycling by the Commonwealth Government via the Australian Sports Commission.
Karting Australia
Karting Australia is the governing body for the sport of Karting in Australia and is the sole body in Australia recognised by the Federation Internationale de ‘l Automobile (FIA) and Motorsport Australia to organise and control the sport of Karting in Australia.
The power and authority to organise and control Karting within Australia has been formally delegated to Karting Australia by the FIA through Motorsport Australia.
Formed in 1966 the AKA, known as Karting Australia since 2014 has produced some of Australia’s finest motor racing talents.
Karting is ‘racing for all ages’ and is the staring point for almost all motor racers in Australia and around the world.
Australian National Drag Racing Association
The Australian National Drag Racing Association Ltd. (ANDRA) is officially recognised as the controlling body of drag racing in Australia by Motorsport Australia and the FIA.
The organisation was created in 1973 from a drag racing oriented faction of the original Australian Hot Rod Federation.
ANDRA sanctions races throughout Australia at all levels, from Top Fuel to Junior Dragster.
ANDRA and its members make drag racing a family friendly, safe sport.
